Abstract

This article analyses the main ways of measuring attitudes towards people with disabilities, with a special focus on the context of physical activity and sport. Based on a theoretical and documentary review, it examines the classic and contemporary contributions of social psychology, highlighting the transition from one-dimensional models to multidimensional approaches to attitudes. The psychometric properties, limitations and potential of widely used instruments are discussed, such as the Thurstone, Likert, Guttman and Osgood scales and, more recently, the Multidimensional Scale of Attitudes towards People with Disabilities (MAS). The analysis highlights the ongoing effort of research to improve the validity and reliability of instruments, emphasizing the need to understand persons with disabilities as active and central subjects in the inclusion process. It is concluded that measuring attitudes towards people with disabilities is a scientific and ethical commitment aimed at building an inclusive environment in the field of Physical Activity and Sport.
